Notes

Create meeting prep notes and freestyle notes to stay organized and prepared

What is Notes?

Notes is Timer's built-in notepad for capturing ideas, preparing for meetings, and keeping track of important information. It offers two note types: Meeting Prep notes that link directly to your upcoming bookings, and Freestyle notes for quick thoughts and ideas. All your notes live in a central hub where you can search, filter, sort, and organize them with ease.

Pro Tip

Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+N (or Cmd+N on Mac) to quickly open the New Note drawer from anywhere on the Notes page. Press Ctrl+K (or Cmd+K) to jump straight to the search bar.

Key Features

Meeting Prep

Create notes tied to upcoming meetings. Select a booking from the list and capture agendas, talking points, and action items before the meeting starts.

Freestyle Notes

Quick-capture notes for ideas, to-do lists, or anything on your mind. No meeting required - just open and start writing.

Search & Filter

Instantly find any note by searching titles, content, or guest names. Filter by note type or favorites to narrow results.

Favorites

Mark important notes as favorites for quick access. Filter your entire collection to show only favorited notes when you need them.

Note Types

Notes supports two distinct note types, each designed for a different workflow:

  • Meeting Prep: Linked to an upcoming booking. When you choose Meeting Prep, the drawer shows your upcoming meetings so you can select one. The note automatically inherits the guest name and meeting date, giving you full context as you prepare. Opens the notepad editor with the meeting details pre-loaded.
  • Freestyle: A standalone note with no meeting attachment. Perfect for brainstorming, quick lists, or capturing ideas on the fly. Opens the notepad editor in a blank state ready for writing.

Creating a Note

  1. 1

    Open the New Note Drawer

Click the "New Note" button in the hero section, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+N (Cmd+N on Mac). If you have no notes yet, click "Create Your First Note" from the empty state screen.

  2. 2

    Choose a Note Type

Select either "Meeting Prep" or "Freestyle" from the type options. Meeting Prep is selected by default.

  3. 3

Select a Meeting (Meeting Prep Only)

If you chose Meeting Prep, your upcoming meetings are displayed with guest names, dates, and durations. Click on a meeting to create a note linked to that booking.

  4. 4

    Start Writing

You will be taken to the notepad editor where you can write your content. For Freestyle notes, click the "Create Freestyle Note" button at the bottom of the drawer.

Views

Switch between two views using the view toggle next to the search bar:

  • Grid View (Cards): Visual note cards arranged in a responsive grid. Each card shows the note type badge, title, content preview, word count, guest name (for Meeting Prep notes), and the last-updated date. This is the default view.
  • List View: A compact row-based layout for scanning many notes at once. Each row shows the type icon, title, preview, guest info, date, and action buttons.

Your preferred view is saved automatically in your browser and persists across sessions.

Search, Filter & Sort

Find any note quickly using the controls in the hero section:

  • Search: Type in the search bar to instantly filter notes by title, content, or guest name. Search updates as you type with a slight delay for smooth performance. Press Escape to clear the search and unfocus the input.
  • Filter: Use the Filter dropdown to show All Notes, Meeting Prep only, Freestyle only, or Favorites only.
  • Sort: Use the Sort dropdown to order notes by Most Recent (default), Alphabetical, or Oldest First.

All controls work together - you can search within a specific filter and sort simultaneously. If no results match, a helpful empty state appears with a "Clear Search & Filters" button to reset everything at once.

Favorites

Mark notes as favorites to keep important information at your fingertips:

  • Click the star icon on any note card or list item to toggle its favorite status.
  • A notification confirms whether the note was added to or removed from favorites.
  • Use the Filter dropdown and select "Favorites" to see only your starred notes.
  • The hero stats bar shows a live count of your total favorites alongside Meeting Prep and Freestyle counts.

Deleting Notes

  1. 1

    Click the Delete Icon

Click the trash icon on any note card or list item. A confirmation modal appears to prevent accidental deletions.

  2. 2

    Confirm Deletion

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Meeting Prep and Freestyle notes?

Meeting Prep notes are linked to a specific upcoming booking and include the guest name and meeting date as context. Freestyle notes are standalone - they are not tied to any meeting and are ideal for general ideas, lists, or quick thoughts.

Can I convert a Freestyle note into a Meeting Prep note?

Note types are set when the note is created and cannot be changed afterward. If you need a Meeting Prep note, create a new one from the New Note drawer and select the appropriate meeting.

Where do I edit an existing note?

Click on any note card or list item to open it in the full notepad editor. Your changes are saved as you work.

Can I recover a deleted note?

No. Deleted notes are permanently removed and cannot be recovered. The delete confirmation modal exists to help prevent accidental deletions.

Why don't I see any upcoming meetings in the New Note drawer?

The drawer loads your upcoming meetings from the bookings system. If no meetings appear, you either have no future bookings scheduled or they may have already passed. Create new bookings in the Bookings section and they will appear here.

Is there a limit to how many notes I can create?

There is no hard limit on the number of notes. Create as many as you need. Use search, filters, and sorting to keep your notes organized as your collection grows.
