What is Files?
Files is your personal cloud drive within Timer. Upload documents, images, videos, and audio files up to 10 MB each, then organize them with custom color-coded tags. Every file can be previewed directly in the browser, downloaded on demand, or shared publicly with a unique link. An orbital storage visualization in the hero area gives you an instant, at-a-glance overview of how much space you have used and how your files break down by type.
Pro Tip: You can drag and drop files anywhere on the page to instantly open the upload drawer. No need to click a button first -- just drop your files and they will be queued for upload automatically.
Key Features
Drag & Drop Upload
Upload files up to 10 MB by dragging them onto the page or browsing with the file picker. A real-time upload queue shows progress for every file.
Color-Coded Tags
Create custom tags with unique colors, assign them to files, and filter your entire library by tag to find exactly what you need.
Public Sharing Links
Toggle sharing on any file to generate a unique public URL. Track how many times each shared link has been viewed.
In-Browser Preview
Preview images, play videos, and listen to audio files directly inside the file details drawer -- no download required.
Grid & List Views
Files supports two display modes that you can switch between at any time. Your preference is saved automatically and persists across sessions.
1
Grid View Displays files as visual cards with thumbnail previews, file names, tags, and metadata. Ideal for browsing images or quickly scanning a large library.
2
List View Shows files in a compact table with columns for Name, Tags, Type, Size, and Modified date. Best for sorting through documents and finding files by detail.
Uploading & Organizing Files
Getting files into your drive and keeping them organized is straightforward. Follow these steps to build a well-structured file library.
1
Upload Your Files Click the Upload button in the toolbar or drag files anywhere on the page. The upload drawer opens with a drop zone where you can add more files or browse your device. Each file appears in a queue showing name, size, and status.
2
Review the Queue Before uploading, review queued files. Remove any you do not want by clicking the X button. Files exceeding the 10 MB limit are automatically rejected with a notification.
3
Start the Upload Click Upload All to begin. A spinner overlay tracks progress as each file is uploaded sequentially. When complete, the drawer closes and your file list refreshes automatically.
4
Organize with Tags Open a file's detail panel and click the + button next to Tags to assign existing tags. Use the Manage Tags drawer to create new tags with custom names and colors, or delete tags you no longer need.
5
Add Descriptions In the file details drawer, type a description in the text area and click Save. Descriptions help you remember the purpose or context of each file.
File Details Panel
Click any file card to open the details drawer on the right side. This panel provides a comprehensive view of the selected file and actions you can perform.
File Preview Images display as full previews, videos show an embedded player, and audio files include a playback control. Other file types show the file icon with a preview-not-available message.
File Metadata View the file name, size, type, upload date, description, and assigned tags all in one place.
Sharing Controls Toggle the sharing switch to generate a public link. Copy the link with one click and monitor view counts directly in the panel.
Footer Actions Use the footer buttons to Delete the file permanently, Download it to your device, or Open it in a new browser tab.
Context Menu & Quick Actions
Right-click any file card (or tap the three-dot menu button) to access the context menu with quick actions.
View -- Open the file in a new browser tab for full-screen viewing
Download -- Save the file directly to your device
Share -- Open the file details drawer to configure sharing settings
Rename -- Open the rename drawer to change the file name
Add Tags -- Quickly assign a tag from your tag library
Delete -- Permanently remove the file after confirmation
Tag Management
Tags let you categorize files however you like. Open the Manage Tags drawer from the toolbar to create, view, and delete tags.
1
Create a Tag Enter a name (up to 50 characters), pick a color using the color picker, and click the + button. The tag appears instantly in the list and is available for assignment.
2
Assign Tags to Files Open a file's details panel, click the + button in the Tags row, and select from available tags. You can assign multiple tags to a single file.
3
Remove or Delete Tags Remove a tag from a single file by clicking the X on the tag chip in the details panel. Delete a tag entirely from the Manage Tags drawer -- this removes it from all files.
Filtering & Search
Files provides multiple ways to narrow down your file library so you can find exactly what you need.
Hero Search Bar Type in the search bar at the top of the page to instantly filter files by name. Results update automatically after a brief delay as you type, with no need to press Enter.
Type Filter Tabs Use the filter bar tabs (All, Documents, Images, Videos, Audio) to show only files of a specific type. You can also click the type pills in the hero area to apply the same filter.
Tag Filter Dropdown Click the tag dropdown in the filter bar to filter by a specific tag. Select All Tags to clear the tag filter and show all files again.
Combined Filtering All filters work together. You can search by name, filter by file type, and narrow by tag simultaneously to pinpoint the exact file you are looking for.
Storage & Stats
The orbital hero section at the top of the page provides a real-time snapshot of your storage usage and file library composition.
Orbital Arc -- The animated arc around the central cloud icon fills proportionally to show how much of your storage limit is in use
Total Files -- The total number of files stored in your drive
Shared Files -- How many files currently have sharing enabled
Recent Files -- The number of recently uploaded or modified files
Type Breakdown -- Color-coded pills showing the count of Documents, Images, Videos, and Audio files at a glance
Best Practices
Use descriptive file names -- Rename files with clear, meaningful names so they are easy to find later using the search bar
Tag files immediately after upload -- Assign tags right away while the context is fresh; this makes filtering far more effective as your library grows
Monitor your storage usage -- Keep an eye on the orbital storage arc and storage text so you know when you are approaching your limit
Disable sharing when no longer needed -- Turn off public links for files you no longer want accessible to others to maintain privacy
Add descriptions to important files -- A brief description helps you and your team remember why a file was uploaded and how it should be used
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the maximum file size I can upload?
Each individual file can be up to 10 MB. Files larger than this limit are automatically rejected when added to the upload queue, and you will receive a notification explaining the size restriction.
Can I upload multiple files at once?
Yes. You can select multiple files from the file picker or drag and drop several files at the same time. All selected files are added to the upload queue, and you can review or remove any of them before clicking Upload All.
How does file sharing work?
Open a file's details panel and toggle the Sharing switch to Enabled. Timer generates a unique public URL that anyone can use to view the file without needing to log in. You can copy the link with one click and track view counts. Toggle sharing off at any time to revoke access.
What happens if I delete a tag?
Deleting a tag from the Manage Tags drawer removes it from all files that have it assigned. The files themselves are not deleted -- only the tag association is removed. This action cannot be undone, so make sure you no longer need the tag before confirming.
Which file types can I preview in the browser?
Images (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, SVG, BMP) display as full previews. Video files (MP4, WebM, MOV) show an embedded video player. Audio files (MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A) include a playback control. All other file types display a file-type icon and can be opened in a new tab or downloaded.
