What is Business Profile?
The Business Profile page is where you configure all the information that appears on your invoices and business documents in Timer. It brings together your legal company details, tax numbers, contact address, payment methods, and branding into a single, organized interface with five dedicated tabs. Every field you complete here flows directly into your generated invoices, ensuring they are accurate, professional, and compliant with local regulations.
Pro Tip: Complete all five tabs before generating your first invoice. The more information you provide — especially your tax number, VAT details, and at least one payment method — the more professional and legally compliant your invoices will be. Changes are tracked automatically and a sticky save bar appears whenever you have unsaved edits.
Key Features
Legal Information
Store your company name, trading name, legal form (Sole Trader, LDA, SA, Unipessoal, LLC, Ltd, GmbH), and registration number in a dedicated Legal tab.

Core Workflow
-
1
Fill in Legal Details
Start on the Legal tab. Enter your company name (required), an optional trading name if your brand name differs from your legal name, select your legal form from the dropdown, and provide your company registration number.
-
2
Configure Tax Information
Switch to the Tax tab. Enter your Tax Number (NIF) and VAT number. Select your default VAT rate (23%, 13%, 6%, or 0%). If you are tax exempt, enable the toggle and select the appropriate exemption reason code. For Portuguese businesses, enable Portugal AT Compliance Mode to include ATCUD and QR codes on invoices.
-
3
Add Contact and Address
Open the Contact tab. Provide your full business address (street, postal code, city, region, country), phone number, billing email, and website URL. This information appears on your invoices and documents.
-
4
Set Up Payment Methods
Navigate to the Payment Methods tab and click Add Method. Select a type (Bank Transfer, PayPal, MB WAY, Stripe, Cash, Check, or Other), enter a display name and the relevant details. Toggle the default and show-on-invoice options, then save. Drag cards to reorder the display priority.
-
5
Customize Branding
Go to the Branding tab. Upload your company logo, pick a brand accent color using the color picker or enter a hex code directly, and write a custom invoice footer message. Use Preview Invoice in the hero section to see how your profile looks on a real invoice.
Profile Sections
The Business Profile is organized into five tabs, each focused on a specific aspect of your business information:
Legal Tab
Company name (required), trading name, legal form selection (Sole Trader, LDA, SA, Unipessoal, LLC, Ltd, GmbH, Other), and company registration number.
Tax Tab
Tax Number (NIF), VAT number for intra-EU billing, default VAT rate selector, tax exempt toggle with official exemption reason codes (M01 through M99), and Portugal AT Compliance mode with certificate number field.
Contact Tab
Full business address (two address lines, postal code, city, region, country), phone number, billing email address, and website URL.
Payment Methods Tab
Add, edit, reorder, and delete payment methods. Supported types: Bank Transfer (IBAN, BIC, bank name, account holder), PayPal (email), MB WAY (phone), Stripe, Cash, Check, and Other. Each method can be set as default and toggled for invoice display.
Branding Tab
Company logo upload (PNG or JPG, max 5 MB, recommended 400x400px), brand accent color picker with hex input, and custom invoice footer text that appears at the bottom of every generated invoice.
Best Practices
Complete All Tabs First
Fill in every tab before issuing your first invoice. Missing tax numbers, addresses, or payment methods make invoices look unprofessional and can cause compliance issues with tax authorities.
Enable Compliance Early
If you operate in Portugal, enable Portugal AT Compliance Mode from the start. This ensures all your invoices include the required ATCUD codes and QR codes from day one, avoiding retroactive corrections.
Add Multiple Payment Methods
Offer at least two payment options (such as Bank Transfer and MB WAY or PayPal). More choices make it easier for clients to pay promptly. Set your preferred method as the default so it appears first on invoices.
Upload a Quality Logo
Use a square, high-resolution logo (400x400px) in PNG format with a transparent background. This ensures your invoices and documents look sharp and professional across all devices and print sizes.
Save Changes Promptly
When the sticky save bar appears at the bottom of the page, click Save Changes before navigating away. Use the Discard button if you want to revert to your last saved state. Unsaved edits will be lost if you leave the page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Company Name and Trading Name?
Company Name is your official legal name as registered with authorities. Trading Name is an optional field for your brand or doing-business-as name if it differs from the legal name. Both can appear on invoices depending on your configuration.
What does Portugal AT Compliance Mode do?
When enabled, your invoices will include ATCUD codes, QR codes, and follow the formatting requirements mandated by the Portuguese Tax Authority (AT). You can also enter your AT Certificate Number once your software is certified.
How do I reorder my payment methods?
On the Payment Methods tab, each method card has a drag handle on the left side. Click and drag the handle to rearrange the order. The new order is saved automatically and determines the display sequence on your invoices.
What logo format and size should I use?
Upload a PNG or JPG image no larger than 5 MB. The recommended dimensions are 400x400 pixels. A square, high-resolution image with a transparent background (PNG) works best for professional-looking invoices across all formats.
Can I preview how my profile looks on an invoice?
Yes. Click the Preview Invoice button in the hero section at the top of the Business Profile page. This generates a sample invoice using your current company details, tax information, payment methods, logo, brand color, and footer text so you can verify everything before sending real invoices to clients.
